Trooper gives student more than education
Joseph Duckett is a college student who wants to one day become a North Carolina state trooper. To help him learn more about the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Duckett worked as a student intern with the Collision Reconstruction Unit in Newton during the 2007 fall semester, but his internship ended up offering him more than on-the-job training. Duckett, 19, was an active intern, taking every opportunity to assist team members in any way possible. During the internship, his family faced difficult financial times, and Duckett could not afford necessary repairs to his aging vehicle and was left with no transportation. Seeing an opportunity to help someone in need, Tpr. Robert Grayson, gave Joseph a Ford pickup truck he owned. “Joey has a remarkable work ethic and was a tremendous help to our team during his internship,” Grayson said. “I was in a position to help him by giving him my older pickup and considered it a privilege to help this young man who was so eager to help our unit and to be part of the patrol.” Duckett was deeply touched by Grayson’s generosity, and the two have no doubt become lifelong friends; however, Grayson does not want public recognition for his kind deed; but rather, he considers it merely a humble gesture to help a friend in need. |
