Retro car marks 75th Indiana State Police anniversary To commemorate the Indiana State Police’s 75th anniversary, the 2008 Ford Crown Vics being driven throughout 2008 by ISP Superintendent Paul Whitesell and district public information officers are a throwback design to the original 1933 Chevrolet, a black car with a yellow stripe. Typical ISP patrol cars are now white. Pictured is the anniversary car of Sgt. Mike Burns, public information officer at the ISP Pendleton Post. “The anniversary memorabilia serves to remind present day troopers that they are a part of the longstanding and fine professional service that has been the hallmark of the Indiana State Police since its inception so many years ago,” Whitesell said. The ISP Museum, one of the few state police museums in the country, also helps celebrate the anniversary by displaying state police memorabilia from days gone by. The museum invites people to take a step back in time on a tour through its Historical Center, which includes old uniforms, cars and equipment used by the ISP over the years. The center, dedicated in 1993, was built on unused acreage adjacent to the Indianapolis Post. During a tour, visitors see displays of donated and confiscated items from the John Dillinger era, as well as a moonshine still, a variety of state police vehicles and numerous antique law enforcement equipment. Besides displaying numerous state police memorabilia, the museum's memorial wall pays tribute to ISP troopers who have died in the line of duty.
