Insurance Package (For Active, Retired I, and Honorable Service Members Only)
After a six (6) month waiting period trooper members receive:
$5,000 of term life insurance (this benefit is not reduced by age)
$5,000 accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) benefit (pays an extra $5,000 in the event of an accidental death)
$5,000 line of duty benefit (pays an extra $5,000 in the event of a death occurring in the line of duty)
$5,000 seat belt benefit (pays an extra $5,000 if the member is killed in a car crash while wearing a seat belt)
$5,000 air bag benefit (pays an extra $5,000 if the member is killed in a car crash while wearing a seat belt and the air bag deploys)
Accidental Death and Dismemberment Family Benefits Package that includes child care, career adjustment, and higher education benefits for the member's spouse and children.
Repatriation Benefit that will pay certain expenses related to transporting the remains of any member who dies more than 200 miles from their primary residence.
MedEx Travel Assistance Program that includes benefits for many services for members and their eligible dependents traveling 100+ miles from home, including Emergency Evacuation; Passport, Credit Card, and Ticket Replacement; Missing Baggage Assistance; Legal Service Location; and Bail Bond Services.
Retired I trooper members have the option of replacing the life insurance package (as stated above) with a vision plan. Information concerning the vision plan can be found here.
Brotherhood Assistance
Awarded on an as-needed basis and as resources permit, to assist trooper members with catastrophic events such as death, severe injury, illness, natural disasters and financial stress caused to the family of troopers by any of these events. (Our members' needs come first but AAST frequently assists worthy non-member troopers as funds permit.)

Trooper Connection - an informative quarterly newsletter to keep AAST members up-to-date on AAST news and information from state police and highway patrol departments across the United States.
AAST Scholarships
The AAST Scholarship Foundation accepts scholarship applications submitted between January 1 and July 31 each year from the dependents of trooper members.
Over a three year period, up to $2,500 in scholarships may be awarded to AAST members' dependents who qualify. For more information, visit the AAST Scholarship Foundation page.
AAST benefits and coverage levels are subject to periodic review and revision by the AAST Board of Directors.
