Q. Do I have to be a state trooper to join AAST?

No. Only to become a trooper member. There is an Associate Law Enforcement member category for individuals who work in state law enforcement agencies and would like to join AAST. For more information click on Join AAST.

Q. I just graduated from the Academy. Can I join AAST?

Yes. Any state trooper, state police, highway patrol, state patrol, or highway safety patrol officer that is a full-time salaried officer, with the sworn authority to enforce the laws of the state in which he or she is employed, may obtain membership in the American Association of State Troopers, Inc., upon approval of his or her application and payment of annual membership dues. Q. I am a former highway patrol/state officer. Can I join AAST?

Yes. Any state trooper, state police, highway patrol, state patrol, or highway safety patrol officer who was a full-time salaried officer, with the sworn authority to enforce the laws of the state in which he or she is employed and completed ten (10) continuous years of honorable service in that state may obtain membership in the American Association of State Troopers, Inc., upon approval of his or her application and payment of the annual membership dues. Q. Is payment of dues or contributions to AAST tax deductible?

No. The IRS designates fraternal organizations such as AAST as non-profits for tax purposes related to the Association's income. It does not authorize the payment of dues or contributions made by individuals to be deducted from their taxable income. Please consult your tax advisor for more specific information. If you would like to make a tax deductible contribution, consider donating to AAST's Scholarship Foundation. The AAST Scholarship Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and contributions made to it ARE tax deductible, to the extent provided by law.

Q. How do I donate?

Voluntary contributions can be mailed directly to AAST at the address below. Please note that contributions to AAST are not tax deductible. For information about donating to the AAST Scholarship Foundation, click on Scholarship Foundation.
