ABOUT AAST
AAST History
In February 1989, a few Florida troopers had the insight to create an organization that would offer greatly needed benefits to their counterparts across the country. The founders thought a national assemblage of state troopers, highway patrol officers, and state police officers could share experience and training in a fraternal setting.
The American Association of State Troopers, Inc., was established as a non-profit fraternal association, offering membership to full-time, active and retired state troopers, highway patrol officers and state police officers. It was incorporated by a National Board of Directors.
Former state troopers, highway patrol officers and state police officers with at least ten years of honorable service also are eligible for membership. AAST is the only national association organized exclusively for individual state troopers, highway patrol officers, and state police officers. The Association is fraternal in nature and is not a labor union or collective bargaining organization.
AAST began with a state lodge in Florida and fewer than one hundred members. It since has grown to thousands of members throughout the United States.
